A very rare example of a highly collectable 17th century tankard. The tankard is cylindrical in design with upper and lower bands of reed engraving for decoration on the body. The center of the body has a elegant contemporary armorial for importance. The lid is hinged and has a single step for highlights with a cast foliate thumb piece. The handle is scroll formed.
Weight: 40.5 troy ounces/1276 grams
Height: 6.75 inches/17cm
Width: 8 inches/20cm
Diameter: 5.25 inches/13.5cm (bowl)
Condition: Excellent throughout. The construction and style of the tankard is completely different to the more common examples of Charles II tankards. Probably the best example of a lidded tankard we have seen in 50 years.
