Description

This pair of antique solid silver columnar table candlesticks features a slender, tapered conical shaft rising from a wide circular flared base up to an ornate collar and classic urn-shaped candle sconce. The lower bowl of the sconce is decorated with vertical gadrooned fluting, while the lip of the socket and upper stem rim feature matching knurled and beaded engine-turned borders. Around the outer lip of the base is an embossed guilloché leaf-and-dart ornamental border, and the upper curve of the base includes a subtle hand-engraved monogram in script within a shield-shaped cartouche. While these pieces display a European Neoclassical Revival aesthetic common in Italian and continental silver.  The underside reveals traditional construction where the central silver shaft extends down through the base and is secured beneath with a threaded spindle rod and nut system.  The candlesticks remain in excellent vintage condition with legible hallmark impressions and light surface wear consistent with age and gentle polishing
