Description

A very rare example of a highly collectable 17th century tankard.  The tankard is cylindrical in design with upper and lower bands of reed engraving for decoration on the body.  The center of the body has a elegant contemporary armorial for importance.  The lid is hinged and has a single step for highlights with a cast foliate thumb piece.  The handle is scroll formed.

 

Weight:  40.5 troy ounces/1276 grams

Height:  6.75 inches/17cm

Width:  8 inches/20cm

Diameter:  5.25 inches/13.5cm (bowl)

Condition:  Excellent throughout.  The construction and style of the tankard is completely different to the more common examples of Charles II tankards.  Probably the best example of a lidded tankard we have seen in 50 years.
