Description
Divine large French silver swing handle basket which beautifully showcases the ornate craftsmanship of Second Empire French silversmithing. Designed in a classical Revival style navette (boat-shaped) basket serves as a centrepiece, bread or fruit bowl. The raised oval pedestal foot is trimmed with leaf and dart banding and the tapered central overhead decorative handle is connected via floral-rosette pivot joints. The detailed frieze featuring scrolling acanthus leaves and sprays of floral brooms set against a subtle textured matted background round off a handsome bowl.
