Description
Wonderful 18th century antique silver lidded tankard and cover, crafted in a handsome Georgian design. Tapered cylindrical form supported by a spreading foot. The body is divided with an eye-catching wire belt a characteristic feature of mid 18th century tankards. The hinged domed stepped cover has been elegantly mounted with an acorn finial and an elaborate chair back thumb piece which is attached to the hinged mechanism. . The scroll formed handle equipped with a beautiful heart shaped tailpiece at the terminal. The original armorial features a complete heraldic achievement executed in a Chippendale/rococo style, typical of mid 18th century English silver.
